Serenflow
The great River Serenflow tumbles down from the mountains east of Cormire, continuously fills the huge lake west of the city, and then flows languorously through low hills and fertile plains to Serenton, fed by tributaries from the Silver Range and Iron Hills along the way.
The river is navigable from Lake Cormire to the sea, and merchant barges are a common sight.
A relatively well-developed and well-travelled dirt road runs along its south side, sometimes within a few yards of the bank, sometimes up to a mile distant.
Roadhouses have appeared every 10-40 miles or so, simple inns maintained by subsistence farmers who will often develop piers out onto the river for merchants' barges to stop at, and come in for a soft bed and a strong drink.
Rarely, bandits and creatures of Troll Wood maraud travellers, but in general, the road is safe and unmolested.
The governments of Serenton and Cormire and merchant guilds collaborate on road repairs and improvements.
