She is a newly-widowed madame with a cheerful disposition and youthful face. At 31 years of age, she finds herself in Raal, alone to attend to the depleted estate left to her by her late husband Herod Kroyter, a burly business man and trader of fine linens. With eroded savings and a general discomfort within local culture, Camille is unsure of her future and is therefore saving money to make her way back to Nottingham, her birthplace and the location of her family's estate.
