Pre-game Text

Damn the cold and the rain... SNAFU...Situation normal all fucked up. That's what we have. Dropped somewhere off the charts after being tagged by an unexpected German flak cannon. McDermont barely held her level long enough for us to bail before dumping it into a ravine, probably in hopes that the water would soften the blow and maybe save him. Too bad, he was a damn fine pilot and he was looking forward to his upcoming leave to go home and meet his new baby girl, Anna, Amy...Erin. Shit, I don't remember. Hopefully the rain and darkness covered our drop from those burning blue kraut eyes.

It's been very non-routine mission from the start. Captain Hollis didn't seem comfortable when he called me into his quarters, setup in what remained of the kitchen of some half destroyed restaurant. Not that anyone can be comfortable in this god-forsaken death-trap. At least he had some good coffee brewed. It took the chill off a bit. He just seemed out of sorts, his normally steely reserve seemed shaken. I didn't see his confident and moralizing grin a single time in our last encounter, where he told me we were being deployed deep behind enemy lines to take out a communications outpost in order to divert German attention so there could be a rush on the southeastern front. We are the Hell Hounds and this is our lot in the war, but so far behind lines seems kamikaze, maybe that's why Hollis was uneasy. We've been on suicide runs before, but this seemed something subtler was eating at him. Maybe it's contagious, granted we're scattered off the charts, but there's something prickling the short hairs on my neck.

I can tell the rest of the crew feels as grim I do, except for maybe Johnston. As I look from face to face I see the grim determination of hardened soldiers, well trained in their trade. But I also see the realization that we are deep in the heart of a great big steaming SNAFU.

We'll make our way to the wreckage, or at least to the ravine to see if we can gather any more supplies and McDermont's tags for his family. Hopefully we can pick up the other jumpers on the way.

SNAFU

After gathering eight of the dropped soldiers: Victor Cromwell Zacheria Silverstien CrowDog Returns Again to Strike the Enemy Lieutenant Schmidt Thomas Ford – Browning 1919 Steve Berkley – Tripod for 1919 Ricky Howard – Radioman Tyler Johnston – Rifleman and driver The group decided to go after ammunition and other survivors toward the wreck site. En route, they heard some German shots ahead. Cromwell and Johnston moved ahead and engaged and ended two German SS soldiers who had just killed one of the Hounds of Hell. Cromwell takes an SS helmet, smokes and coat as Johnston takes German weapons. Finding two lone SS soldiers worried Lieutenant Schmidt and he decided to proceed with caution to the wreckage, questioning why they were shot down by a flack cannon in a supposedly unfortified area. The troops rested for about an hour at ravine just before dawn. During this time, Zacheria got his bearings and determined that the plane couldn’t have landed behind them, so they continued to the north down the ravine with Cromwell and Johnston scouting on either ridge. In the grey of the morning in the drizzling rain, Johnston spotted the wrecked plane a couple hundred yards off in a cabbage field. Schmidt ordered Cromwell to cover the back, Ford and Berkley to setup their MG and cover while the other 5 moved in to the wreckage. There was a single German SS soldier inspecting the wreckage. Moments after his dispatch, Cromwell made an uncanny snipe of another German motorcyclist some thousand yards off in the distance.

Cromwell and the comm. Officer Howard rode the wreckage inspector’s motorcycle over to the victim of Cromwell’s shot to discover three other Germans. Disguised in the fallen SS soldier uniforms they came within talking distance to the wary soldiers before opening fire. After dispatching the 3 more SS soldiers and their two motorcycles, they returned to the wreckage with Cromwell’s hand is crippled as one of the last acts of a dying SS soldier.

The party then continued on to the objective location, reaching it at dusk where they scouted as best they could from the nearby treeline before attacking after dark. Taking out multiple machinegunners in a surrounding trench with grenades before moving into the compound, the troops successfully kill all visible opposition before attempting to breach a large concrete building in the center of the station. During the firefight, lieutenant Schmidt and the fool-hardy scout, Johntson fell and Howard was shot in the foot. As Zach pondered how to open the barred hardwood doors to the structure, CrowDog climbed to the top of the building where he planted TNT on the communications tower and ran the detonator wires to the ground below and Cromwell found a jeep in a nearby tent, which he endeavored to use as a ram to open the doors.

Penetration

After ramming open the door beneath the iron eagle with the jeep there is a small but tense firefight with some SS troops before the party overtakes the main lobby room of the large gray concrete building. They then swept through the building killing any germans. they found a hidden door that led down to what appeared to be an archaeological dig site into a tomb beneath the building. They then encountered a mad german scientist, Dr. Verrucktheit, who tried to stab Zacharia with a syringe of a rust-colored fluid. With a thorough search of the building another secret door was found which lead into another subterranean level where there were jail cells, another doctor, Dr. Schnapsideen who was working autopsies, and some strange biological/chemical lab. Schnapsideen was taken prisoner and forced to assist the wounded soldiers and questioned.

Ley Lines, portals, nazis and super soldier serums

Zacharia studied the notes, maps, journal and archaeological tomb that he discovered when sweeping the building. Schnapsideen worked on Howard's crippled foot and Cromwell's shot hand. Cromwell scouted outer perimeter and gathered SS uniforms while Crowdog readied vehicles and disabled those they wouldn't be taking. After having his foot doctored, Howard went into the communications room and rigged up his radio to boost the signal and try to reach the allies...shortly after he came storming in while the others rested uneasily and ate what they could find...

“Son-of-a-bitch! What the hell good is ‘Survive!’ No shit! Fucking survive, CrowDog, FUCKING Survive!” That wormy piece of shit on the other end said we’re cut off. They can’t push the line b/c something rallied the krauts this way. They hit the base camp Sierra (where the push was to come from) with mortars and heavy artillery that’s not even supposed to be in the neighborhood. Fucked our boys up right. They were falling back. Glad to hear we’re alive he said. McDermont didn’t ever show back. No Shit! Afraid we lost you all. Fuck that piss-ant. Well, boys we’re fucking cut-off and deep behind enemy lines. They said surveillance and intel reports a fucking mechanized infantry unit heading our way. We’ve been advised to survive. I’m supposed to be fucking communications, and I’m fucking crippled. I ain’t no intel or commanding officer, so what the fuck do you all suggest? Silverstien, you made shit sense of that fucking library you been packing around yet?”

Zach had determined that some of the German intel gathered from the map room had maps identifying two separate things. Military compounds or base camps and some other sites, which are connected by red lines, labeled as ley lines. On one map, the current location is labeled as a military base camp, as well as has red line passing through it.

The archaeological tome will dated back to before the war. Notes were found that there was some resistance by some of the archaeological workers to the armies occupation of their dig site and construction of the comlex. Most of the documentation was of bodies and parts, aging the findings and it seemed as they dug deeper, the bodies grew older, then they stopped documenting bodies and started documenting a chamber and some standing stones which they later refer to as liths. The last entry was about 3 months prior to the parties invasion.

Zach also worked with Howard to guess the most likely direction from which the German mechanized infantry would come. The party then risked some time exploring the dig site beneath the building where they found ring of strange stones, some white powder, or whitened dirt beneath some stacked stones, where it smelled of ozone and gave them all an eerie feeling. In this chamber they also found a large flat stone which had recently dried blood upon it. After some inspection it was found that this stone healed wounds very slowly.

The party then left setting out in a northwesternly direction away from the supposed German retaliation. They drove a jeep and a half-track and had the doctor as a POW.
