Background

Sonny grew up the son of an abusive, chain-smoking, hard-drinking general contractor in the sprawling industrial city of Houston, Texas. Sonny was encouraged to settle disputes with his fists, and was provided with Karate and Boxing lessons from an early age.

A high school dropout, Sonny began competing in boxing matches as a teenager and eventually was attracted to the "Ultimate Fighting" league. With a record of 20-5, he achieved the title Southeast Regional Light Heavyweight Champion at the age of 19. At the national championship, a smaller, less experienced fighter shattered Sonny's femur in the first ten seconds of the first match, leaving him in a wheelchair for four months.

A few years later, Sonny entered Navy SEAL training. While he excelled in the physical requirements of the training, he was eventually thrown out after a conflict which left another trainee paralyzed.

After another few years working for his father's contracting firm and fighting in occasional UFC bouts, he was hired by Blackwater USA, where he received small arms and tactical training. He was deployed to Pakistan and Tajikistan during the Central Asian crisis where he participated in numerous security and direct action missions, as well as serving as a backup helicopter pilot. During his five years with Blackwater, he was investigated and reprimanded several times for involvement in needless civilian deaths, but it was his connection to a funding scandal that led to his dismissal. $40 million in US currency, plastic-wrapped in $100,000 "bricks", went missing, and Sonny's squad was part of the convoy transporting it to Tajikistan's central bank. While Sonny's direct involvement was not proven in the State Department investigation, he was fired.

Two years later, he was contacted by a SubNet operative, and has been doing occasional missions in this capacity for the last few years.
