Not a house rule, just a summary of alcohol rules B439-440...

Effects of Drinking

If you drink more that ST/4 drinks in an hour:

  • roll against ST or Carousing, modified by:
    • -1 per drink beyond ST/4 that hour
    • -2 for an empty stomach
    • +1 if you just ate
    • +2 for Alcohol Tolerance Perk
    • -2 for Alcohol Intolerance Quirk

A failure moves you down the line of drunk afflictions (sober -> tipsy -> drunk -> unconscious -> coma).

  • 'Critical Failure drops you two levels.
  • If are about to move into Unconscious or Coma, make an unmodified HT roll:
    • Success means you VOMIT (affliction: Retching)
    • Failure means you pass out AND vomit (Affliction: Choking)

Hangovers begin 1d hours later (or upon awakening) on a failed HT roll, modified by:

  • -2 if you are Drunk
  • -4 if you are Unconscious

The hangover lasts as many hours as your margin of failure, and causes the Moderate Pain and Low Pain Threshold.

Alcohol-Related Afflictions

  • Tipsy: -1 to DX and IQ, -2 to self control rolls (except Cowardice), Shyness reduced by 1 level.
  • Drunk: -2 to DX and IQ, -4 to self control, Shyness reduced 2 level.
  • Retching: -5 to DX, IQ, Per, all Concentrates fail, lose 1 FP (and your lunch)
  • Choking: Suffocation: without assistance, lose 1FP/second, lose consciousness at 0, and you DIE in 4 minutes. (B436-437)
  • Moderate Pain (from hangover): -2 to DX, IQ, skill, and self-control rolls. (halved or doubled if you have High/Low Pain Threshold)

Disadvantages

  • Alcoholism: roll versus Will any time you are in the presence of alcohol. A failed roll results in a binge lasting 2d hours, followed by a hangover. While on a binge, expect sudden mood swings.
  • Compulsive Carousing: Once per day, you must seek out a social gathering and crash it if necessary. You never refuse a social drink (or any other substance).
