From 1st edition DMs guide, companion to the Crown of Might and Scepter of Might, and like those artifacts existing in both a good and evil version.

The Good version of the orb is rumored to rest in the treasure vault of the Emperor of Kali-Shaza, according to the oracle Srinka.

The evil version's location is utterly forgotten.
