A few hundred years ago, Mount Dracos erupted and spewed forth a tremendous lava flow, boulders, gravel, and soot. This cataclysm spread out across the Plains of Ur between the Steam River and the Twisted Forest.

Today it is a surreal landscape of twisted columns, jagged rock, immense potholes, and giant boulders.

Due to its inhospitable conditions, it is scarcely inhabited, but a few malevolent creatures manage to persist therein.

Parts of the region were explored during the Ur campaign. The party at the time heard legends about it, one concerning the peaceful people who once lived in the area, and another about the flesh-eating demon that preyed on the peaceful people. (The party did indeed slay a flesh-eating creature therein...)

The Forest Folk, including Faunus McClavie, possess information about passable routes and other secrets of the region.

From Ur campaign notes:

Another difficult few days through the Broken Lands. Drizzling rain makes the rock slick, people slipping, getting banged and bruised. Just traveling through this terrain costs 2 fatigue points that will only be recovered upon 24 hours of rest. Rations run low, as there is no game or forage here.

Finally, walking through a narrow crevasse wondering of the flash flood is going to come, and the party emerges from the edge of the lava flow at the base of some rocky hills with scant vegetation. Clouds are low, air is cold and misty.
