The great River Serenflow tumbles down from the mountains east of [[Cormire]], continuously fills the huge lake west of the city, and then flows languorously through low hills and fertile plains to [[Serenton]], fed by tributaries from the [[Silver Range]] and [[Iron Hills]] along the way.

The river is navigable from Lake Cormire to the sea, and merchant barges are a common sight.

A relatively well-developed and well-travelled dirt road runs along its south side, sometimes within a few yards of the bank, sometimes up to a mile distant.

Roadhouses have appeared every 10-40 miles or so, simple inns maintained by subsistence farmers who will often develop piers out onto the river for merchants' barges to stop at, and come in for a soft bed and a strong drink.

Rarely, bandits and creatures of [[Troll Wood]] maraud travellers, but in general, the road is safe and unmolested.

The governments of [[Serenton]] and [[Cormire]] and merchant guilds collaborate on road repairs and improvements.
